GCB bullion van saga: Youth accuse police of cover up

Some irate youth at Donkorkrom in the Affram Plains district of the Eastern region are accusing the police of aiding the suspects arrested for allegedly attacking a GCB bullion van to escape.

The three suspects including two police officers and a mechanic were arrested Tuesday evening after the attack on the bullion van which led to the death of the vehicle driver while a police officer escorting the vehicle was also wounded.

The armed robbers attacked which occured at Maame Krobo in the Affram Plains South district.

But the police officers identified as Kissi and Fire managed to escape when they were being transferred to the Police regional head office in Koforidua.
But the youth in Donkorkrom in an interview on Adom News claim the two escaped with the help of their own colleagues.

One of them alleged that, an officer who was part of those escorting the suspects to Koforidua hinted that, they might help the officers escape.

“We don’t trust the police in Affram Plains, this is not the first time such a thing has happened” a resident bemoaned.

The youth are therefore calling on government to as a matter of urgency move the police from the town since “they have outlived their usefulness".
