GAF Dismisses Publication

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has described a publication in the October 1-5, 2004 edition of ?The Lens? under the headline ?Don?t blame me, if Rawlings gets shot, Air Force Commander says? as false and calculated to malign and subject the Chief of Air Staff to public ridicule and contempt.

It has also noted with concern the unsavoury, disparaging, abusive language and reaction from some callers who reviewed the news item who tried to rubbish the Air Force Commander with plans at ?creating the false impression that the former President was a security threat to the country? as the paper puts it.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Directorate of GAF, said in as much as the Chief of Air Staff would have treated the publication with the contempt it deserved, ?he finds it in the interest of the public to set the records straight since the public is sending wrong signals about him?.

It said ?he therefore finds it absurd and totally ridiculous for a newspaper to have published such a spurious article on an event which took place three months ago without any attempt to cross check the facts from him or confirm from the woman at what forum he was reported to have made such a statement.?
