Delays in release of stipends for Ghanaian students on scholarship abroad an embarrassment – MP

Dr. Clement Apaak Dr. Clement Apaak

Dr. Clement Apaak, a Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, has criticized the government for the delays in releasing funds for the payment of stipends to Ghanaian students on scholarships abroad.

He labeled the situation an embarrassment and urged the government to promptly address the issue.

He was responding to a protest by Ghanaian students studying in Morocco under the Morocco Scholarship Programme.

The students demonstrated at the Ghana Embassy in Rabat on Friday, May 24, 2024, expressing their distress over the delayed stipends, which have led to hardship and academic challenges.

Dr. Apaak stated, "Not long ago, we had to deal with issues faced by Ghanaian students in the UK. Before that, it was students across Europe, from Hungary to Holland, Norway to Sweden. When will this end?

"When will we create a situation where our students abroad are not demeaned to puppets and beggars? When will they not have to publicly plead for what is rightfully theirs?

"Is this too challenging for our nation? A new NDC government, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, would tackle these unreasonable and outrageous delays in remitting funds to our students abroad," he added.
