Dangote Group rules out entering Ghana’s salt industry

The Dangote Group Company has told Citi Business News it has no immediate plans to enter the salt industry in Ghana.

The company which is mainly into cement, salt and sugar production has already set up a cement factory in Tema in Ghana with production capacity at almost a million tonnes of cement with plans to expand its plants to other regions in the country.

Vice Chairman of Dangote Cement, Alhaji Tajudeen A Sijuade told Citi Business News the group will only enter the salt industry if certain concessions are given.

‘’ It is a good venture it is food and everybody needs food but I am not very sure we can have allocations. Government decides who gets.’’

Ghana has the production potential of 2.2 million tonnes of salt annually however as at 2009 it produced between 250,000 and 300,000 tonnes of salt.
