Compensate by-election violence victim – Government advised

A lawyer, Martin Kpebu has asked the government to compensate a victim of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence who has lost his leg.

Making the demand, Mr. Kpebu added that the compensation should be adequate.

“This time let us not make it GH¢250, 000,” Kpebu said; referencing the compensation given to families of some young men shot by police in the Ashanti region.

He said that amount was “woefully inadequate” and the government can do better.

The victim

Ishau Yaro, 37, the breadwinner of his family was shot at close range by masked national security operatives in the disturbances at La Bawaleshie during the by-election.

The Commission investigating the disturbances, led by former Justice of the High Court, Emile Short had to go to the hospital to take his testimony since he couldn’t go to the Osu Castle where the hearing was held.
