Citizens of Kassena-Nankana West District asked to exercise restraint

Navrongo, (UE), Feb.5, GNA- Citizens of the newly created Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, who protested against location of the capital of the district at Paga, have been asked to exercise restraint whilst the exercise received attention. Mr. Emmanuel Chegeweh, the District Chief Executive (DCE), for Kassena-Nankana, made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the Weekend in Navrongo. He explained that Paga was made the district capital because it was the largest revenue generating town in the area. Mr Chegeweh gave the assurance that resources would be tapped to develop all areas in the district.

He said nobody was against the creation of districts since that was the only means by which the national cake could be distributed equitably and fairly. Mr Chegeweh said "No development can take place in the atmosphere of violence and conflict as history has shown." It would be recalled that last month some irate youth of the newly created district embarked on a peaceful demonstration in Navrongo to express their displeasure over the choice of Paga as the capital for the District.
