Christians urged to be the light of the world

Right Reverend Dr Ebenezer Abaka Wilson, Bishop of the Methodist Church of Cape Coast, has urged Christians to continue being the light of the world irrespective of the perilous times at hand.

He said the birth of Christ has brought light, which is capable of putting away all sinful lifestyles and guide Christians to live righteous lives in the coming year and beyond.

"It is high time Christians exemplified the life of Christ with leadership that provides the right direction to the flock of God through kingdom-based messages, good and sound biblical teachings," he said.

In a sermon in Cape Coast to herald the birth of Jesus Christ, dubbed: "The Child Was Different,” Rt. Rev. Wilson said: “If you are not in Christ, you will never see light and you will never get knowledge because knowledge is light and if you are a person without knowledge, your life is full of darkness.”

Christians, he said, were born in sin and darkness “but when the light of God shines on you, you would be reformed, redeemed and saved”.

Therefore, it was necessary that Christians lived righteous lives in order to see the light of God, he said, because God is light and in Him there is no darkness.

At the Roman Catholic Church, the Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church of Cape Coast, encouraged all Christians to celebrate the Yulitide and the birth of Christ with love and kindness because that was the essence of Christmas.

"If you want to give a gift at Christmas, think about it carefully and don't let it be just a show because its Christmas, let it come from the heart, let it be genuine and that is when the blessing will come," she added.

They should pray to the Lord for grace to love those they even find difficult to love and to reciprocate God’s love to their fellow humans, Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle said.

He admonished them to do away with hatred, jealousy, backbiting and all forms of social vices and accept Christ.
