The acting Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to take over a probe into the circumstances that led to the death of Isaac Adjei at Nmaa Dzor in Accra.

The deceased was allegedly shot and killed by the police Thursday when they stormed and searched their residence in search of a suspected armed robber. A police officer who shot him has been detained.

A delegation led by the Greater Accra Police Commander, COP George Dampare, has met the family and explained the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afia Tenge announced this when the police
visited family of the deceased in the area.

She indicated that the IGP has also directed an independent pathologist conducts the autopsy instead of the police pathologist to ensure neutrality.

The police PRO added the docket on the case has been forwarded to the CID headquarters for immediate action.

She revealed that the IGP is calling for an independent Police Complaint Commission to handle cases involving the loss of innocent lives.

ASP Afia Tenge called on the family to exercise restraint as they work assiduously for justice to prevail.

Meanwhile, the family of 24-year-old Isaac Adjei has called on the police to correct the erroneous impression that their kinsman is a criminal.

They insist the deceased is an innocent man who was killed based on mistaken identity.
