Police have arrested and put a leading member of BONABOTO, Francis Atintono, behind bars in Bolgatanga for alleged possession of indian hemp.

Mr. Atintono who is also a lecturer at the Bolgatanga Polytechnic was locked up in cells on Friday September 6, 2019, for reportedly refusing to assist police investigations after he was arrested in relation to the alleged crime some months ago.

Sources who have been talking to media houses say Mr. Atintono was granted bail at the Bolgatanga District Police Station the same day after three members of BONABOTO stood surety for him. Mr. Atintono will be put before court at a date yet to be announced and if found guilty could spend not less than fifteen years in jail for a first-degree felony.

BONABOTO is an association of some natives of Bolgatanga, Bongo, Talensi and Nabdam Districts of the Upper East Region. Mr. Atintono is said to be the immediate-past chairman of the union and residents who have been speaking to radio stations say he is known for contesting issues.
