Avram Grant defends 3-5-2 system

Ghana Coach Avram Grant has defended his decision to employ the 3-5-2 system in the Black Stars’ 2-1 defeat against Senegal at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, stating that it is a good formation that must be strengthened.

The former Chelsea Boss’ decision to use a formation with a defensive trio with two wingbacks has been criticized by some Ghanaian tacticians who feel the Black Stars lost to the Teranga Lions due to their unfamiliarity with the new system.

After facing a difficulty in adjusting to Avram Grant’s formation, the Black Stars must prepare to adapt to variations of the 3-5-2 as the continental tournament progresses, according to the Israeli trainer.

“For the moment, it’s a good system for us but we will not play only this system. Senegal started against us with this formation so you need to be intelligent and you need to strengthen your system,” Grant told reporters in a post match interview.

The four-time African champions are in desperate need of victories over Algeria and South Africa in their final group games to improve their chances of advancing to the quarter final stage.
