Annan says he can turn around the fortunes of NDC

Sekondi, Oct. 17, GNA - Mr Eddie Annan, one of the four National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates campaigning to be elected as the party's presidential candidate in Election 2008, says he would use his experience as a successful entrepreneur to turn around the fortunes of the party if given the nod.

He said his success in business showed that he could manage the party and the country.

He was briefing the media at Sekondi on Monday at the end of his campaign in the Western Region where he met constituency executives and party functionaries.

Mr Annan said his focus, if elected the NDC flag bearer and eventually President of Ghana, would be on employment generation by boosting agriculture and improving health and education. "I will create jobs, deliver economic freedom and bring smiles to the faces of all Ghanaians if given the nod at the congress and eventually win the elections", he said.

Mr. Annan said after the two terms of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rule the people have now realised the difference and were prepared to return the NDC to power.

He said however that victory for the party in the upcoming elections would demand unity and hard work from the rank and file of the party. Mr Annan said if made the flag bearer, he would work to ensure that members who were led away by the "Obed faction" return to the NDC family.

Mr Annan said Dr Obed Asamoah, former NDC Chairman, left the party on his own volition and it would not be necessary to try to bring him back. He said NDC needed a new visionary and result-oriented leadership to win back power to continue the good works of the party and that he had the qualities to lead the party to victory.
