Ghana captain Andre Ayew has admitted the Black Stars have been playing under immense pressure at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The four-time champions began their campaign on a slow note after back to back draw with Benin and Cameroon in their opening two games.

However, a fine second-half performance against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday saw them record a 2-0 win which secured Ghana a place in the knockout stage of the competition.

The result sees Ghana top Group F on goal difference ahead of Cameroon who played out a barren draw with Benin in the other simultaneous kick-off in Ismailia.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Andre lauded the team’s character and congratulated his teammates for the win.

“We need to keep going and prepare for the next game. It’s a war and we need to win several battles to win the war. I want to congratulate all the boys. They were under a lot of pressure after the first two games, it’s not everybody that can withstand this sort of pressure from the media and fans”
