Akufo-Addo simply wants to rig 2020 elections with new voters’ register - Otokunor

NDC Deputy Secretary, Peter Otokunor NDC Deputy Secretary, Peter Otokunor

Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor says the obstinate nature of the Akufo-Addo government and the Electoral Commission (EC) to go on with the compilation of a new voters’ register is simply to rig the 2020 elections.

According to him, many political parties serving on IPAC have kicked against the compilation of a new voters’ register including institutions like CODEO and CDD, as well as Civil Society Organizations, but due to the ill-motive of the EC and the Akufo-Addo government to rig the election, they are insisting on the compilation of a new voters’ register.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the NDC Chief Scribe described the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson as a bad referee, trying to rig the 2020 general elections as a token of her appreciation for her appointment as the EC boss.

He maintained that it does not make any sense for the Electoral Commission (EC) to still go ahead with the compilation of new voters’ register in spite of the fact that 9 political parties have kicked against the move.

"Look at the number of Ghanaians who joined the demonstration in Tamale. We are hitting Kumasi next Tuesday 21st January 2020 for another demonstration against the new voters’ register . . . Everybody is speaking against the new voters’ register and so why is it that only Jean Mensa and Akufo-Addo are obstinate about it? he asked.

To him, the deliberate refusal of President Akufo-Addo and Jean Mensa to adhere to the demand of Ghanaians to drop the compilation of new voters’ register for the 2020 elections goes to buttress the point of the Majority leader that only a new voters’ register will make the NPP win the 2020 general elections.

He again found it strange by the Akufo-Addo government to call for a new voters’ register when it was this same voters’ register that the NPP won the 2016 elections with.

Peter Boamah Otokunor, however, implored Ghanaians to reason with the NDC and also to know the political party with the interest of the country at heart as against the political party seeking for its personal interest.
