Akufo-Addo heads to Uganda for swearing-in of Yoweri Museveni

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States, left Ghana on Tuesday, 11th May April 2021, to Kampala, capital of the Republic of Uganda, to attend the swearing-in of H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President-elect of Uganda.

The President was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, and officials of the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.

The President will return to Ghana on Wednesday, 12th April 2021, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.

According to Ugandan local media, other presidents expected for the ocassion include Alpha Condé (Guinea), Emmerson Mnangagwa (Zimbabwe), Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed (Somalia), Salva Kiir (South Sudan), Evariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), and Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi (Democratic Republic of Congo), who is also the chairperson of the African Union.
