Afia Schwarzenegger launches Leave2Live Foundation to fight domestic violence

In her bit to fight against domestic violence in the country, Valentina Nana Akua Agyeiwaa popularly called Afia Schwarzenegger has officially launched Leave2Live Foundation.

Leave2Live was outdoored at a short but beautiful ceremony on Valentine’s Day at the Lou Ralph Hotel in Accra. The strictly by invitation event had officials of the Domestic Violence & Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) asking wives to report their abusive husbands.

The comedienne speaking at the launch hosted by comedian Hogan told her story as a domestic violence survivor. Afia Schwarzenegger disclosed that her ex-husband, Lawrence Abrokwah maltreated her on several occasions even though she was the breadwinner of the house. According to her, “I never for once thought I was in an abusive relationship. I felt I was in love with a troubled young man whose inability to provide for his family as a man has caused him stress. Sometimes I tell myself Lack of employment is the reason he is hitting me all the time and when he gets a job he will change.”

She added that men of God, family and other respected personalities in the country came to beg her to stay with her abusive husband anytime she decided to walk out of the marriage.

“During these consistent attacks, I had family, men of God, friends begging me to remain in the hell I was in called marriage but I decided enough is enough as valuing life should be ones topmost priority in the world.” Afia stated

Leave 2live Foundation with its foreign partners Face Forward will give free medical assistance to domestic violence victims who are in need of medical assistance in terms of surgery, counselling, empowerment seminars, assisting victims in endorsing their police medical reports and giving confidence to the weak. Leave 2live works hand in hand with DOVVSU on how to put an end to abuse.

Afia Schwarzenegger on the day also gave a bag of rice to each domestic violence survivor who attended the show.
