A winner of special award at the MTN Hero's of Change and convener of Sugardem GH Afia Pokua has called on Government to make importation of sanitary pads duty Free.

Afia Pokua made this comments when her team Sugardem GH and the Vim foundation collaborated with Pretty lady sanitary pads and Di'gari to donate sanitary towels and snacks to about 980 pupils in the Ahwiam DA basic School at old Ningo.

Afia Pokua who won a media award recently for her philanthropic works journeyed her Sugardem team and vim foundation team to old Ningo to continue with her philanthropic works.

Afia Pokua in an interview said, the rate of infections and the psychological trauma girls in deprived communities go through during their menstrual periods has to be addressed by government and other stakeholders by making Sanitary pads more affordable and available for use.

Afia Pokua is therefore calling for discussions on how to relieve less-privileged girls from this unfortunate situation.

According to them, they have to use tissues, rugs, diapers and other materials when they are bleeding because they cannot afford to purchase sanitary pads.

Afia Pokua educated pupils of Ahwim especially the male students not to tease their fellow girls when they see them in touch situations like having their menses.

She the children to look out for each other and be each other’s keeper.

Students of Ahwiam DA Basic School expressed appreciation to Sugardem GH and Pretty Lady Sanitary Pads for their kind gesture. They shared some of their worst experience they've had during their menstrual cycle.
