A House Divided Against Itself…

Though a contest at the up-coming NDC congress will enhance the democratic credentials of the party, it is a fact that it can also threaten the unity of the party, a pre-requisite for victory in the 2012 elections.

It is for this reason that we are calling on leaders of the two sides to think of what the over four million supporters of the party are going through as a result of the seeming division amongst the hierarchy and give unity a chance. “A house divided against itself will fall” says the GOOD BOOK. Based on this biblical fact, the division in the party can only lead to its going back to opposition come the 2012 elections. We are therefore pleading with both President Mills and Mrs. Rawlings to iron out any differences between them and work together for victory in the 2012 elections.

We have said it several times and over that as leader of the NDC, the onus lies on President Mills to do everything within his means to unite the party. Let it not be that he would refuse our humble counsel, tumble to defeat in the 2012 elections (God forbid) and go into th e records as the person who twice sent the NDC from government into opposition.

Posterity will not remember any of his advisers except him as the holder of this unenviable record. To the Rawlingses, we plead that they let must not let the sun settle on their anger against President Mills. If they have been able to tolerate the murderous Kufuor government for eight years, they surely should be able to tolerate the Mills government no matter its ills. They should not allow their anger to have the better part of them to the extent that they would throw away the baby and the bath water. Surely, a bad Atta-Mills government should be far better for them than any NPP government.

We believe that when President Mills and the Rawlingses sit down to iron out their differences, there would be no victors or vanquished when the ultimate, unity, is achieved.
