36-year-old labourer jailed 10-years for defiling girl, 14 in a pigsty

A 36-year-old labourer has been jailed 10-years by a Circuit Court in Koforidua in the Eastern region for defiling a 10-year-old girl in a pigsty.

The victim is a school dropout who lives with the complainant at Anlo-Town, a suburb of New Juaben Municipality and supports the complaint to sell food at the Koforidua Timber Market where the convict, Stephen Gakpala Mawuli operates as a labourer.

The complainant upon a tip-off that the convict had had sex with the victim, interrogated the victim who confided that the convict called her to his pigsty and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her after she turned down his love proposals.

The convict after the act threatened to kill the victim if she discloses the incident to anyone.

A medical report confirmed that the victim had suffered broken hymen with injuries.

The convict, Gakpala Mawuli, after hearing that the case has been reported to the Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, (DOVVSU), took his pigs, destroyed the pigsty and went into hiding.

He was, however, arrested and a caution statement was taken in which he initially denied the allegation but later admitted the offence.

Several culprits of rape and defilement have been thrown into jail by Courts in the region in recent times without delay after they were found guilty.

The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh in an interview with Ultimate News said the Command is providing the needed support to DOVVSU to swiftly investigate and prosecute perpetrators of sexual abuse.

They have urged the public to report all forms of child abuse cases to the Police to help curb the increasing menace.
