3 men who forced SHS students to eat raw chicken sentenced; fined ¢16,200

Three of the four persons arrested for forcing three senior high school students at Akomadan in the Ashanti Region to eat raw chicken they allegedly stole have been sentenced to a total fine of 16,200 cedis.

Abukari Anaba, Prince Antwi and Peter Owusu Oduomi are to pay 5,400 each or in default, serve 12 months in jail. Also, the court has ordered the convicts to compensate each of the three victims with 1,000 cedis.

They were convicted on their own guilty plea Monday when they appeared before the Akomadan Magistrate Court on the charges of conspiracy to commit crime and assault.

Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Godwin Ahianyo told 3news.com a while ago that the convicts are yet to pay the fine and are likely to spend the night in custody.

A fourth accused person, Osei Francis, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was granted 10,000-cedi bail. He is expected in court again on February 11 for trial.

The four were arrested on Friday, January 25, by the Akomadan Police Command after they were seen in a viral video forcing the three students of Akomadan SHS to eat raw chicken which they were about to cook.

Meanwhile, a bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of a fifth suspect, Kwaku Antwi, who the police say, is at large.

Background

The three students had prepared the fowl they allegedly stole and were about to cook it in their hideout in the woods when they were accosted by the convicts and their two accomplices.

A video of the incident showed the men threatening the students to eat the chicken raw to avoid the case being reported to their school authorities since that could lead to their expulsion.

The frightened students, two of who were handcuffed together by the community police assistant, then had no option but to eat the uncooked chicken. They were given water to drink in order to make the eating somewhat easy.
