In Ghana, marriage is a very big deal. From age 25, many women across country are under pressure from their family and friends to get married.

The perception is that if the women do not get married "on time", they may find themselves unattractive to men when they grow older.

However, some Ghanaian female celebrities do not feel or do not care about this pressure.

They are rich, famous and powerful. They are role models for thousands of Ghanaians, especially girls, across the country.

But these women have something that sets them apart from other woman of their stature: their singleness. For such powerful women, however, being single is a choice.

1. Jessica Opare-Saforo

A broadcaster with Accra-based Citi FM, Jessica has 16 years experience in broadcasting. She told Graphic Showbiz in 2014 that she was engaged, but did not disclose the identity of her man.

“I don’t believe in celebrities publicly displaying their love-affairs because it attracts attention. If you make your lover known and the relationship doesn’t work out, how do you explain to your admirers? It is better as a celebrity to keep your love affair away from the public because you can never tell who is working against you,” she said.

2. Lydia Forson

She is an actress, movie producer and women’s activist. She is one of the most sought-after women in Ghana.

She told Accra-based Joy FM last year that she had a boyfriend. “I like someone very much and I’m happy,’ she said, adding: “When you are really crazy about someone, you find yourself thinking about them more, you go the extra mile. It turns to be a little crazy sometimes. I love hard so maybe I’ve done some really crazy, stupid things.”

3. Doreen Andoh

She is a broadcaster of 20 years with Accra-based Joy FM. Affectionately called the “queen of the airwaves”, she is still single. Not much is known of her personal life.

4.Sandra Ankobiah

The beautiful lawyer and fashion critic are still reportedly single, despite many men lining up to ask her hand in marriage. There were reports some time ago that she was dating Paedea of R2Bees, but no one knows what became of that.

5. Nana Aba Anamoah

She is one of the most popular media personalities in the country and a mother of one. In a 2014 Twitter chat, she said she was seeing someone and would love to have another child. She added, however, that marriage was not for everyone.

6. Yvonne Okoro

The star actress is one of the most sought-after bachelorettes in Ghana. It’s not clear why she is still single. Last year, she joked that she was not married because she was overqualified for marriage.

7. Jackie Appiah

The actress called it quits with her husband and father of her son and has since been single.

8. Deloris Frimpong-Manso (Delay)

The media personality is thought to have a boyfriend, but it’s not known when she will "settle down".

9. Joselyn Dumas

She is a media personality, actress and a mother of one. She was reported to be dating Joey Gucci, the founder/CEO of Silhouette Advertising. It is not clear if it will lead to marriage.

10. Mzbel

The popular musician is still single, despite being very beautiful. She has admitted in interviews that prefers older men in her relationships.
