The Managing Editor of The Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has commended the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, for what he described as his ability to rise above partisan divisions.
The remarks of the veteran journalist follow a tribute by Awuku on the death of Isaac Batsa, an NDC Constituency Secretary for Akuapem North.
In his tribute,Awuku acknowledged the political differences between them but emphasized mutual respect and dedication to service.
In a post shared on his X page on May 24, 2026, he wrote,“Though we belonged to different political parties, he rose above party lines and served his party and constituency diligently.”
Kwesi Pratt described the statement as an example of political maturity, noting that such expressions of unity and respect across party lines should not be rare in Ghana’s political discourse.
“Awuku’s ability to sometimes rise above party lines is commendable“, Pratt stated.

He expressed hope that this approach would be replicated by other political actors when addressing national issues, especially in moments of grief and public concern.
Batsa was reportedly found in a hotel room on May 18, 2026, with circumstances surrounding his death still under investigation.
Pratt, however, urged caution in the handling of the matter, calling on the security services to provide clear and credible explanations to the public in order to prevent misinformation and the spread of conflicting accounts.
According to him, a lack of official clarity risks allowing “mischief makers and truth seekers of various hues” to shape the narrative in ways that could deepen confusion and public mistrust.
