Violence erupted in the ongoing voter registration at a center in Adugyama, located in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
The incident was triggered by clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The altercation escalated when NDC party agents reportedly obstructed the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate from registering certain individuals at the center.
The NPP candidate, Frederick Acheampong, asserted that these individuals, including children residing with him in Kumasi and other relatives, were eligible to register in the constituency.
However, NDC agents present disputed their eligibility, claiming they were not residents of the area.
Attempts at resolution through engagements between the EC officials and the party agents failed according to reports.
Subsequently, a group of armed men wielding sticks, machetes, and other offensive weapons stormed the area, vandalizing properties and assaulting individuals.
In a video capturing the chaos, individuals could be seen engaged in aggressive physical altercations, with some brandishing machetes.
In response to the incident, the police force has taken action, interdicting three officers allegedly involved in unprofessional conduct.
The conflict left three individuals injured.
