WARRANT FOR TSATSU’S ARREST

An Accra Fast Track High Court yesterday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Tsatsu Tsikata, former chief executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), standing trial for causing financial loss to the state.

The court, presided over by Mrs Justice Henrietta Abban, an Appeal Court Judge sitting as an additional High Court Judge, took the decision after Tsikata failed to appear before the court to open his defence.

Professor Emmanuel Victor Oware Dankwa, counsel for the accused was also not in court to give reasons or explanations as to the whereabouts of his client.

Tsikata has been standing trial at the Fast Track High Court charged with three counts of willfully causing financial loss to the state and another count of intentionally misapplying public funds.

When the case was called at about 9.05 a.m. yesterday, it was only the director of public prosecution (DPP), Mr. Osafo Sampong, who announced his presence. He appealed to the court to stand the case down for about 15 minutes to see if the accused could show up which the judge did.

The court then reconvened at exactly 9.50 a.m. yet neither the accused nor his counsel showed up, prompting the DPP to ask for the bench warrant which the court granted.
