NO ROOM FOR TERROR GANGS IN KUMASI – POLICE

WENESDAY 9TH MARCH, 2005 -- The Ashanti regional police command says that gangsters calling themselves “Al Qaeda” and “Taleban” groups and terrorizing residents of the Kumasi metropolis, will not be given any breathing space at all.

Speaking to the paper yesterday at Kumasi in the Ashanti region, Ofosu Mensah-Gyeabour, regional commander and his deputy, ACP Kweku Ayesu Opare-Addo, said the necessary security arrangements had been put in place to track down the leaders and other key members of the “terror groups”.

As part of the arrangements, regular military and police swoops are being launched on known hide-outs and rendezvous of criminals and other miscreants, they said.

According to them, lots of people had been flocking the Kumasi central police station with harrowing stories involving the leader of the gangsters. They include a pastor, who is presently on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, after being tortured and robbed of some valuables.
