GIVE ¢500, SAVE A LIFE. CARDIO CENTRE MOOTS IDEA TO RAISE FUNDS

TUESDAY 8TH MARCH, 2005

The cardiothoracic centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital will be able to provide free heart treatment to all Ghanaians if one million people contribute a minimum of ¢500 per month to the centre.

It is estimated that ¢500 million from such contributions would be enough to cover 50 per cent of the cost of heart surgery conducted by the centre every month.

A heat surgery currently costs ¢80 million and the centre bears half of all surgeries carried out on Ghanaians at the centre through funds raised from donors and other sources. Dr Lawrence Agyeman Serebboe made the dislosure at the centre when he received a donation of ¢1.5 million on behalf of Ghana Heart Foundation from Emmanuel International School of Dodowa in the Dangbe West District in the Eastern Region.

According to him, due to the success of its operations, the centre was attracting many people from all over West Africa sub-Region and expressed the optimism that the centre’s ultimate aim of giving free treatment to Ghanaians would soon be achieved through the contributions of individuals and corporate bodies.
