Best Female Table Tennis Players in Ghana play for positions

Ghana’s best female players gathered at the rlg / Hathiramani Sports Hall on Saturday February 1, 2014 to play an all play all “Top 8” competition for ranking and selection into the national team, the Black Loopers.

At the end of the exciting tournament sponsored by Stanbic Bank, 2012 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Best Female player Cynthia Kwabie beat Linda Annor to grab the Top 8 trophy for the first time.

Winner of the first edition of the Top 8 in 2013, Celya Baah-Danso lost to Linda Annor at the semi-final and was beaten for the third place game by Bernice Borquaye.

Eva Adom Amankwa placed fifth, with Beatrice Gyasi taking the sixth position. Abigail Tetteh was seventh as Doreen Nettey took the eight position.

For the men’s division, Emmanuel Commey surprised the pack to beat Derek Abrefa in a titanic duel.

2012 SWAG best male player, Felix Lartey placed third with new boy on the block, Jacob Saikum taking the fourth position.

Emmanuel Commey who has been to the finals of the last two competitions said he was very determined to be a champion and he trained very hard to become the top player at the Top 8 competition.

Cynthia Kwabie, the best female player noted that the competition had been tough and very interesting. She said all the players are good and displayed wonderful skills.

Mawuko Afadzinu, PRO and Communications Manager of Stanbic bank congratulated the players for their wonderful games and adviced them to keep on training and be in top shape for international competitions coming up in the year.

Coach Owusu Ansah, head coach of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) hinted that all the players are performing amazingly and it is good the young players are trying to match up with the established players. He commended Commey and Saikum for making it to the best four in the male division and urged the female players not to relent in their efforts to be the best and play for Ghana.
