Lack of sponsorship killing tennis – Churcher

Ghana Tennis Ghana Tennis

Veteran tennis coach David Churcher has charged the new leadership of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), headed by Isaac Aboagye Duah, to seek sponsorship in order to fund the federation’s programmes.

The Federation over the years has lost steam due to lack of funds, leading to Ghana’s non-participation in the Davis Cup.

Speaking to Class Sports, Mr Churcher said: “Now the sponsorship is not coming. Milo used to be our major sponsor from 1974 to 2005. Since they stopped, we have not been able to organise that junior tournament because in the past, throughout Africa, Ghana was the country that…organised junior tennis tournaments but now it is difficult to get sponsors and it is hampering our tennis development.”

The new leadership has promised to do its best to raise the standard of tennis in the country.
