Cofie Bekoe joins Bechem United

The former Petrojet prodigy has joined the Hunters untill the end of the season after a failed spell in North Africa

Former Ghana international Cofie Bekoe has joined Bechem United FC for the rest of the season, after an unsuccessful spell with Libyan giants Al-Ittihad.

Ghana Football Association passed a new law this year to register only players who will return to the country after their stints with foreign clubs, which made it possible for the likes of Richard Kingson and Eric Bekoe to be eligible to play for Great Olympics.

The 27-year-old Bekoe is reported to have signed a six-month-deal after holding talks with the club’s president Kingsley Owusu-Achiaw on Tuesday.

“We’ve signed Cofie Bekoe. The Lierse SK and Ittihad Tripoli midfielder joins untill the end of the season,” Bechem United said in a message.

Cofie is expected to form a formidable up-front partnership with Noah Martey, who has netted eight times to save the team from the relegation battle.

Cofie was the captain of the Nania FC squad that participated at the 2005 Youth Cup in Altstetten, Switzerland before joining Tema Youth after a short stint with Lebanese club Tripoli SC. He rose to fame when he joined Egyptian top-flight Petrojet in 2009 before a bumper transfer to Belgian club Lierse SK.

Bechem United currently lie 12th on the league log with 19 points, one above the drop zone after the first round.
