Sumaila re-joined Kotoko to save his career

Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila says he opted for a loan return to the Ghana Premier League in order to save his professional career.

The 21-year-old has joined Asante Kotoko on a one-year loan stint after being left out of Mamelodi Sundowns’ team for the 2014/15 PSL season.

Sumaila enjoyed a good run in his debut campaign at the Chloorkop where he helped the side win the PSL title.

But the defender was expected to move abroad after his impressive debut campaign in the South African top flight – and thus was not included in Sundowns’ plans for the season.

Sumaila’s expected move however didn’t happen – leaving him with no choice but to join Asante Kotoko on loan in his bid to remain relevant.

“I’m feeling very great because they [Kotoko] received me well when I came and I really appreciate that,” he said.

“I took the decision to come back and my club Asante Kotoko who has the interest in my football career also spoke to Sundowns for me to join on loan.

“I couldn’t be there just training and not playing, although the Ghana league is yet to start I believe it’s better here because there will be friendlies and international games to play.”
