'Vallecano erred in signing Boateng'

The coach of the Red Sashes has emphasised that signing the ex-Getafe player was an erroneous decision due to his age
Rayo Vallecano manager Paco Jemez has revealed that he personally asked the club to offload Ghanaian midfielder Derek Boateng because he has passed his prime.
He argued that the former Fulham midfielder does not look like a player who can add anything beneficial to the Red Shashes.
Boateng was fired from the Spanish outfit in less than two months of joining. Jemez, however, praised the Ghana international for his efforts.
“It was exclusively my decision,” Jemez told Inside Spanish Football. “He wasn’t the kind of player I needed. He’s an exceptional guy, professional and a great player. We made a mistake, we thought he was a player with certain characteristics and he’s an important footballer.”
He added: “He didn’t come here to play three games, he came to offer something and play. That’s what I explained to him and nothing more. He’s performed very well, but I don’t think he was the kind of player we needed.”
The 31-year-old former Getafe midfielder has since signed a one year deal with newly-promoted La Liga side Eibar.
