Medeama in the dark over Helegbe's reported move

Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC claim they are unaware of playmaker Michael Helegbe’s reported move to Tripoli Sporting Club of Lebanon.

News broke late Friday that the 28-year-old who joined the side on a two-year deal in a free transfer from Asante Kotoko last season has signed a contract with the club who placed sixth on the 12-team table of the Lebanon Premier League last season.

But an official reaction to the news from the management of the Mauves and Yellows suggests the club was not involved in the supposed move but are waiting on the veracity of the reports.

“Micheal Helegbe has a TWO year contract with the club which he signed in January 2014,” Medeama’s director of Communication, Tony Nkrumah Boateng clarified the state of the player’s engagement with the club.

“If reports coming in from Lebanon are proven to be TRUE, then there has been a clear breach of the regulations governing player registrations and the club will respond accordingly at the appropriate time,” he ended.

Helegbe is reported to have signed a season-long loan deal for Tripoli SC together with compatriot Eric Bekoe who had recently signed for Ghana Premier League returnees Accra Great Olympics.

For Bekoe, Great Olympics have confirmed knowledge of the Lebanese deal but refused to divulge further information on the matter.
