Emmanuel Clottey's transfer money saga

Officials of Berekum Chelsea and Tema Youth are locked in a heated debate over whether the later should be given a share of Emmanuel Clottey’s $1.5m transfer fee to Esperance.

The Chief Executive Officer of Tema Youth, Wilfred Osei Palmer is adamant that his outfit should be compensated for the struggles they went through due to their decision to sign Clottey in the 2008-2009 season from Accra Great Olympics.

Tema Youth got relegated after they were deducted points for fielding Clottey, who was declared an unqualified player, in two of their league matches.

Mr. Palmer insists he personally took care of the needs of Clottey after he was banned 6-months for his part in the transfer.

But the General Manager of Chelsea, Oduro Sarfo insists no contract was signed between the two clubs pertaining to the transfer of Clottey and therefore sees no reason why Tema Youth should be paid.

Oduro Sarfo explained that Chelsea only signed Clottey after he was declared a floating player following the expiration of his 6-month ban.

He however added that Osei Palmer and Tema Youth can appeal to his outfit to be given part of the money on humanitarian grounds.

At this juncture, Osei Palmer could be heard sobbing as he recounted several instances when Chelsea sought his council about how to properly sign Emmanuel Clottey.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness has told www.liquidsportsghana.com, that the two officials Osei Palmer and Oduro Sarfo engaged each other in a war of words during and after the 1:1 drawn Glo premier league game between Tema Youth and Berekum Chelsea at the Tema Park on Sunday.

The saga has left a sour taste in the mouth as the two clubs were thought to have a very close relationship in time past. The bankroller of Berekum Chelsea, Emmanuel Kyeremeh, and the CEO of Tema Youth were thought to be very close friends.

Oduro Sarfo and Osei Palmer were interviewed on Happy Fm on Monday, November 05, 2012.
