TP Mazembe set to make Clottey swoop

Officials of TP Mazembe have approached Berekum Chelsea over the acquisition of striker Emmanuel Clottey, GHANAsoccernet.com is reliably informed.

The 24-year-old has been in scintillating form in this year’s Caf Champions League scoring 11 goals so far in the competition.

Clottey again impressed with a brace against The Ravens on Sunday which helped the 2010 Ghana Premier League champions redeem a point in Lubumbashi from a losing position.

His deadly instinct which was sampled by Mazembe before the eyes of their billionaire owner Moise Katumbi at their newly built stadium has seen the club quickly make a move for his service.

Katumbi, who is also the Governor of the Katanga Province in the southern part of the DR Congo is said to have held preliminary talks with the leadership of the Berekum Chelsea team in Lubumbashi.

The meeting was said to have ended with the Chelsea officials requesting an official bid in writing from the two-time African champions to form the basis for negotiations.

Clottey’s stock has shot up tremendously following strings of jaw-dropping performances in the continent’s premier club competition.

He is also being chased by Egyptian giants Zamalek who registered their interest in the player after hitting a hat trick against them in the opening Group B fixture some few weeks back at the Accra Sports Stadium.
