Kotoko defender Mohammed close to Maritzburg deal

Awal Mohammed could sign for Maritzburg Asante Kotoko defender Awal Mohammed is close to joining South African side Maritzburg United.

The refined centre-back is said to be on the wish list of coach Ernst Middendorp-who is hugely respected in Ghana after spells with Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

The former Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord coach has been a hit since joining Kotoko in January last year.

He played a key role in Asante Kotoko's 21st league title.

If a deal is sealed, he will join compatriot Frank Sarfo Gyamfi who moved from Ghana Premier League side Wa All Stars.

Mohammed was named Ghana Premier League best defender for last season by the Premier League Board.
