Shanghai SIPG to unveil Gyan Wednesday

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is expected to arrive in China on Wednesday afternoon to sign a mega deal to join Chinese big-spenders Shanghai SIPG, GHANAsoccernet.com is reliably informed.

The 29-year-old has received the all-clear from Al Ain to agree on personal terms with the Chinese club coached by Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Al Ain will be compensated with a huge transfer fee while Gyan will see his weekly earnings rise to a staggering US$350,000.

GHANAsoccernet.com sources in China say Shanghai SIPG are making preparations for the arrival of the Black Stars captain who they expect to be unveiled as their new signing on Wednesday at 3pm local time.

This will end Gyan’s successful four-year stay in the UAE where he helped Al Ain win the Arabian Gulf League three times and also emerged semifinalists in last season’s Asian Champions League.

The former Udinese man stunned the whole world with his initial loan move to Al Ain in 2011 from English club Sunderland.

Gyan had then completed his first season with the Black Cats with a goal tally of 13.

But a mouthwatering £6m loan offer from Al Ain saw Sunderland let go of their prolific striker in what was at the time the most expensive loan deal in world football.

Gyan eventually turned his loan stay with the Boss permanent the season after helping the side win the domestic league title in a season he also emerged top goal scorer.

The Ghana international has since not looked back but the mega offer made by Shanghai SIPG coupled with Gyan’s lowered productivity in the season just gone by in an injury-ravaged campaign appears to have forced Al Ain officials into a decision to let Gyan go.

The Black Stars captain was on a fat contract with the UAE giants – his move will thus free up the enormous wage bill of Al Ain while also freeing up the foreign-player quota space in the club.

Asamoah Gyan is currently in Ghana on post-season holidays but processes have been set in motion to have the Ghana striker leave Accra in the nearest possible time to arrive in China on Wednesday.
