England-based winger Albert Adomah has admitted that he is lucky to be playing for Ghana as he could be part of the Black Stars squad for the World Cup in Brazil next month.

The 26-year-old, who plays for English second tier side Middlesbrough, is among the players expected to be named by coach Kwesi Appiah in his squad for the World Cup.

Adomah was playing in the lower leagues of England before he was snatched into the second tier three seasons ago.

His outstanding form this season for Middlesbrough after scoring 12 goals as a winger made him the club’s highest scorer.

Adomah, who was playing in the lower rungs of English football three seasons ago, admits he is lucky to break into Ghana’s national team full of players playing with top clubs in Europe.

“I didn’t even dream of this, I did not even think that one day I would be playing professionally, let alone nationally – it is a dream come true,” the Middlesbrough winger said.

“It is a big achievement going to a World Cup, and after the last World Cup watching them on TV, now hopefully I will get the chance to play.

“Playing for Ghana means so much to me as it is where my mum and dad are from and it is a great feeling being with the national team.”

Adomah was born in England to Ghanaian parents.
