Odjer on trial at Belgian side Standard Liege

Ghana U20 star Moses Odjer is undergoing a trial session at Belgian top-flight Standard Liege days after he was freed from a slave contract with Italian side Chievo Verona, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Standard, who have Ghana defender Daniel Opare in their ranks, have showed huge interest in snaring the talented midfielder.

Odjer is yet to fulfill his potential after an impressing at the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey where Ghana won bronze.

The 17-year-old was targeted by a host of stellar European sides including Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

English giants Manchester United, Portuguese duo Benfica and FC Porto and Chievo Verona also showed interest.

The former Tema Youth player ended up at the Italian outfit who were later accused of breaking multiple FIFA regulations in signing him.

There is no signing date at all on the pre-contract and by law, a contract for an U18 player can only be a maximum of three years but the deal for Odjer is for five years.

Lawyers representing the teenage prodigy have fired Chievo’s sporting director Giovanni Sartori with the list of violations on the player’s rights which has resulted in the decision to cancel the contract.

Odjer’s Ghana U20 mate, Frank Achamepong, has been a success in the Belgian Pro League with Anderlecht.
