Kingson impresses in Balikesirspor win

Former Ghana first-choice keeper Richard Kingson continues to put himself in contention for a place in the Ghana squad for the 2014 World Cup after impressing on Thursday night in the Turkish second-tier league.

The 35-year-old lasted the entire duration of the regulation minutes at the Fatih Stadyumu and made game-winning saves for Balikesirspor who enhanced their promotion chances with a 2-1 over their host – 1461 Trabzon.

With Balikesirspor goal talisman Kwame Karikari missing with injury, the onus fell on the former Wigan Athletics shot-stopper to use his experience to help the promotion hopefuls and he did a splendid job before 5500 fans on attendance.

After conceding a 4th minute goal through defensive errors, Kingson exhibited high-alerted with accurate split second decisions and made vital saves in the dying embers to win the game for his side, one of such bold challenges earned him a yellow card 6 minutes from full-time.

Kingson has been fighting for a place in the Ghana squad for the 2014 World Cup and is hoping to draw the attention of Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah.

A fight for a place in Ghana’s goalkeeping is widely opened after Fatau Dauda’s lack of activity at Orlando Pirates and Adam Kwarasey’s fall from favour.

Daniel Agyei, Stephen Adams and Razak Brimah have all put themselves in strong contention for a place in the Ghana squad for the 2014 World Cup but Kingson’s experience could give him an urge over his competitors.
