Time to believe in our indigenous Coaches - Baffoe

Former Ghana defender Tony Baffoe is calling on African countries to believe in their own Coaches.

His comments come at a time when the continent is set to explode at next year’s FIFA World Cup.

Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Algeria and Cameroon will represent the continent at the competition but only Ghana and Nigeria has indigenous Coaches.

Africa’s record of three quarter final appearances at the World Cup set by Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana were all made by expatriate Coaches in 1990, 2002 and 2010 respectively but Tony Baffoe told XYZ Sports that it is time to give indigenous Coaches the needed nod.

“We must learn to believe in our own indigenous people,” Baffoe told XYZ Sports.

“It was a delight to see Stephen Keshie and Daniel Amokachie on the bench of Nigeria during January’s Africa Cup of Nations which they won,” he added.

“The two again combined effectively to qualify Nigeria to the World Cup. Akwasi Appiah has done same with the Black Stars and what else can we ask for,” he quizzed?

“I believe in constructive arguments and I think that realistically there is no big difference between the expatriates and our home grown Coaches.

“We have come of age as people and I think that the proper thing to do at this time is to motivate our own Coaches for them to deliver,” Baffoe concluded.
