Berekum Chelsea coach: It's not over

Berekum Chelsea coach Hans Van Der Plyum has insisted that his side is not out of CAF Champions league despite the disappointing 1:1 draw with Al Ahly in Accra.

Jordan Opoku scored from close range to secure the draw after the Egyptians opened the scores in the first half but the Ghanaian side could have won the game if they had converted the numerous chances they squandered.

Chelsea trail group B leaders Al Ahly (10) and TP Mazembe (7) with two matches to go but head coach of Berekum Chelsea Hans Van Der Plyum is confident his side still has a chance of securing second spot.

“It is never over until it’s over,” the Dutchman told www.liquidsportsghana.com adding that, “we have a young team, I don’t want to talk about inexperience, but in this kind of matches it counts very much.”

Chelsea could have gone on to win the game had striker Bismark Idan converted from 3 yards while Owusu Jackson also struck the crossbar from a free kick. Van Der Plyum concedes the result of the game was difficult to take.

“If you play a match like this and you play 1:1 then the result if obviously not good enough.”

“But I think in the second half, the boys tried and played their hearts out and in my opinion we played a very good game in the second half. "

"We put pressure on them, they also made mistakes but very unfortunate luck was not on our side."

The former Hearts of Lions coach also acknowledged that Ahly are a difficult side to beat saying “we have played against a very strong team. When you loose ball possession, they move so fast and that is something you get from a side like Al Ahly.”
