Eric, Joetex?s younger brother, makes progress in Nigeria

Eric Frimpong, younger brother of Ghanaian international and CS Sfaxien star, Joetex, is making steady progress in his young soccer career, in Nigeria.

He lives in the North-Central city of Minna, capital of Niger State with his parents, who are well known because of the soccer talents of Joetex and Eric. In fact, both players are household names in the small city.

Eric, who was born in Lagos, Nigeria, grew up in Minna. After playing for several youth sides in Minna, he eventually got a chance with modest Niger Tornadoes, the same club his brother played for and has continued to make a good impression at the club.

Last Wednesday, he was on the score sheet when Tornadoes progressed to the next round of Nigeria?s Coca-Cola FA Cup, which is the equivalent of the FA Cup, in England.

Speaking on his outing, he said: ?I am following my brother?s footsteps. I want to a big player like him. He was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Coca-Cola FA Cup, last year and I intend to achieve the same in this competition.

?It?s great to have scored in the Coca-Cola FA Cup. This is my first game and my first goal. I am really excited. Joetex scored many goals in Nigeria and became very popular. I am just starting and would continue to learn.?

The youngster equally expressed his desire to make an impact in the competition like his elder brother, Joetex, who is now based in Tunisia with CS Sfaxien.

Eric, who lives in Minna with his parents, made his debut in the Nigerian league, this term. He operates from the flanks and had a goal in the league against Nasarawa United, in Lafia.

He started from the bench in the course of the domestic league, but has now become a first-team player in the modest club dominated by young players.

His club defeated amateur side Makwada FC of Numan 2-0 in a Coca-Cola FA Cup Round of 32 match and look good for a confrontation against one of Joetex?s former Nigerian teams, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, in the Round of 16.

?I am enjoying this competition and pray that everything works out well for us on Saturday. The squad ready for the match,? he said.

The youngster says he is looking forward to wearing the colours of any of the country?s youth teams as a stepping stone to an eventual debut for the senior national team, the Black Stars.

?I am happy with my progress here. I am not in a hurry, but confident that one day I would play for any of the Ghanaian national teams,? he maintained.
