Madam Lydia Adajawa, a Psychology Lecturer at the Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC), has launched the first night soccer league in the Volta Region in Ho.

The six team league, which would be played Thursday nights was an initiative of Miss Tilda Elinam Acorlor, a sports journalist with Volta Star Radio in Ho. The night soccer is to engage young people at night and take their minds off crime and social vices.

Mrs. Adajawa urged the youth to take advantage of the initiative and develop their talents whiles cautioning players who were students to manage the time well.

Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jr., Volta Regional Sports Director, National Sports Authority (NSA) said the league would receive the necessary support from the NSA.

He commended Miss Acorlor for the foresight in trying to change the narratives of negative perception of Anlokordzi, a surburb of Ho, which is hosting the league.

Mr. Ampofi said sports should be used a tool for social development and to correct "societal ills".

Mr. Phanuel Hotsonyame, from the Volta Regional office of the National Youth Authority (NYA) said sports and recreation was one of the key priority areas of the NYA.

He said the Authority was ready to support and partner any activity that would bring the best out of the youth to impact society positively.

Miss Acorlor was hopeful the 10-week tournament would impact positively on the community, reduce criminal activities and empower the youth.
