The Ghana international is set for a new life in the Netherlands, and would look to bring back a failing career on track

Richmond Boakye-Yiadom has joined Dutch side Roda JC on a season-long loan from Italian side Atalanta.

The 22-year-old joins the Eredivisie outfit, having struggled to hold down a regular place in the Atalanta set-up, after joining them in the summer of 2014.

Having earlier acquired Boakye’s 50 per cent shares from former side Genoa in the initial deal, Atalanta took full control of the striker after securing the remaining 50% rights from Juventus last June.

“Roda JC Kerkrade have reached an agreement with Atalanta Bergamo about loaning Richmond Boakye,” a Roda club statement read.

“Boakye is a strong offensive player with experience in the Italian Serie A and the Spanish Primera Division.

“Obviously, we are pleased to have him join our line of attack.

“With Richmond in the ranks, we have more options upfront.”

Boakye made 19 appearances and scored three times as Atalanta finished a disappointing 17th last season.

Earlier, he had spent two seasons on loan at Sassuolo, helping the side to an unsuccessful promotion attempt in 2012 where he scored 10 goals in 34 Serie B appearances in his first season.

He then spent season 2013-14 on loan at Spanish outfit Elche where he scored six times in 31 appearances.

Known for scoring on his debuts, including goals for Genoa, Elche and the Ghana senior set-up, Boakye has been included in the Black Stars’ 24-man squad that is set to take on Congo on September 1 in an exhibition and Rwanda four days later in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
