Black Stars head coach Avram Grant stirred controversy when he disclosed that he would not be drawn into a conversation on why in-form Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey had not been invited for recent national assignments.

Grant was addressing the press after a year in charge as head coach of the Black Stars. Kwarasey has been tipped to win MLS goalkeeper of the season following a series of impressive results for his club Portland Timbers.

Grant seemed exasperated when one journalist chose to ask if he had ever officially invited Kwarasey to the Black Stars since he took over the job. “I’m sorry to say that I will not answer any personal questions about Kwarasey or any other player.

“I will speak only on the players currently in the Black Stars and I need you to give them that respect.

“All I can say is the door is open for all players who do what is good for the country. Grant went ahead to state that he and his technical team had begun preparing for Ghana’s next AFCON 2017 qualifier against Mozambique in March 2016.

The Stars are top of Group H with 6 points from two matches played. The Black Stars have scored 8 goals and conceded only one in the the two qualifiers played against Mauritius and Rwanda.
