Accra Hearts of Oak youth team star Jacob Kingston says he will welcome an invitation to join Ghana U20 team as he seeks to follow in the footsteps of his father.

Jacob, 17, is the son of former Ghana international Laryea Kingston and has been described by local pundits as a rising star.

The striker, who shares his football activities with studies at Labone Senior High School in Accra, believes starting out with the Black Satellites will smooth his path towards the senior team.

“Definitely, I qualify to play for Ghana U20 team and I am going to grab the opportunity when it comes,” Kingston told Goal.

“Over the years, my dad has passed on some beneficial advice to me. He has taught me to be confident and believe in my abilities as a player, so pressure is something I don't feel. I know it's not going to be easy to fill his shoes, but I believe I can do it in a grand style," he said.

“I combine football and education perfectly with the help of my family. My parents are always there for me every time. I go to school in the morning and go to training sessions with my dad in the afternoon. Everything is going on well.”

Kingston was born in Ghana but grew up in Scotland which entitles him to a Scots citizenship and eligibility to play for the Tartan Terriers. However, he maintains that his heart is with Ghana and will always be there if called up.
“I could easily get a Scottish passport because I lived there for a long time but my wish is to play for Ghana. I want to wear the number 7 jersey of my father in the Ghana national team one day. He is my biggest role model.”
