I am surprised at our progress in CAF Confederation’s Cup - CK Akunnor

Coach for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, C.K. Akunnor, has expressed his delight at the progress of his team in the ongoing CAF Confederation’s Cup.

According to him, he never expected the team to reach this far.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko are in group C of CAF’s Confederation’s Cup together with Zambian duo Zesco United and Nkanna FC, and Sudanese team Al-Hilal

The team defeated Kariobangi Stars of Kenya and Cotton Sports of Cameroon in the preliminaries of the competition to qualify to the group stage.

Kotoko had a 1-0 defeat with Al-Hila in their first group game behind them and won their first home game against Zesco United last Wednesday at the Babayara sports stadium 2-1

In an interview with Ohene Bampoe Brenya on Happy FM’s ‘Anopa Bosuo Sports’ Show, coach for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Charles Kwablan Akunnor, indicated that the team’s progress so far in the competition has come as a surprise to him because of the lack of competitive football in the country.

“If I say I knew we were going to get this far when I took over the team, I will be telling a lie. I never foresaw this. The management team has been very supportive to our success especially financiall,” he said.

He further expressed delight at how fast the players have understood and adapted to his style and opined that was the reason for their success so far.

“I have seen a lot of improvement in the team. Gradually the players are adapting to my style of play and they have improved very well. That’s why we have gotten this far and the players deserve a lot of praises,” he stated.

The team will be traveling to Zambia to play Nkanna FC on 24th February 2018 to complete the first round of group games.

All four teams have three points after the second round of group matches.
