Ghana striker Jordan Ayew says qualification to the next stage of the 2018 world cup qualifiers is a ‘huge relief’ for the country.

The Black Stars are looking to reach their fourth straight world cup, something managed by only Cameroon but were made to scrap for a 2-0 win over Comoros on their return to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Jordan struck the crucial second goal that made the game safe with a superb first touch and wonderful finish and said it was mission accomplished for Ghana afterwards.

“It was a good game. It is a relief for the country. The most important thing is that we are through to the next stage. Reaching Russia will be difficult so happy to be still on course,” he said.

The Aston Villa striker said the desire and tactical discipline of Comoros had made it a very difficult afternoon for Ghana.

“When you play against teams like this with many players who play in the third and fourth divisions, they give everything. They were tactically very disciplined.”

It is an assessment his older brother Dede Ayew agrees with. “It is always difficult because we played against a side with nothing to lose”, he said.

Dede added: “We have qualified to the group stage but not the world cup. Our aim is to get to the world cup so this is part of the road. We can do better but we proved that we are a top squad.”
