Stakeholders kick against 18-club league

Stakeholders in Ghana Football have kicked against the proposed 18-club league by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA).

The proposal was seen as a solution to the undue delay in the start of the league following a protracted legal battle between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and King Faisal Babies.

Alhaj Akambi, a Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak said in an interview, that his outfit will kick against the proposal because it is against the constitution of the GFA.

He said playing an 18-club league makes no sense adding that, it will serve as a bad precedent for the future.

According to Alhaji Akambi, the case at the courts must be allowed to go the full haul to ensure truth and justice in Ghana football.

Joseph Yaw Appiah, former chairman of GHALCA, said, the move is unconstitutional adding that, such a move must be backed by a two year advanced notice.

“Playing an 18-club is a process and not an event. Clubs must be served with enough notice before it is adopted.”

Abdul Salam Yakubu, President of New Edubiase also expressed similar sentiments adding that the clubs were prepared to wait for the outcome of the case.

He said despite the cost involved in sitting idle without the league, the case must be pursued to its logical conclusion.
