2018 Budget: Government to set up Sports Fund

The Government has announced that it will create a sports fund to aid the development of sports in the country.

The move by the government was made public by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta while reading the 2018 budget on Wednesday, November 15,2017.

According to the Minister, the setting up of the sports fund will remove the bottlenecks that comes with funding sporting activities in the country and accelerate the growth of sports in the country.

Presenting the 2018 Budget to Parliament on Wednesday 15th November, 2017, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta also added that government will not relent on its efforts to have the National Youth and Sports Act passed since it is fundamental to the development of sports in the country.

The Minister also revealed that the government will establish a Youth in Sports Development programme aimed at providing the needed platform for the youth to contribute to sports development.

“In 2018, the Ministry will continue the process of passing the Legislative Instruments of the National Youth and Sports Act, pursue the enactment of the draft National Sports College Bill and create a Sports Fund to improve sports development in the country. The Authority will establish Youth in Sports Development programme to create a platform for the youth to contribute to sports development.

The Minister was however mute on the amount of money allocated to the Sports Ministry. He also failed to provide an update on the renovation of the National Sports College he promised last year.
