Methodist Brigade Ghana holds seminar

The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, has called on Christians to open a new chapter by refraining from acts which hinder national development.

He said Christians would be doing a disservice to the nation if they did not allow the teachings of Jesus Christ to reflect in their daily lives.

The Most Rev. Prof. Asante was speaking at the opening of a four-day seminar on Saturday for captains and officers of the Association of Methodist Brigades Ghana at Aburi in the Eastern Region.

It was on the theme: ‘’Upholding the Spirit of Self-Giving as a Witness to Christ and Holistic Spirituality’’.

More than 500 participants, drawn from the 10 regions of Ghana, are attending the seminar which is aimed at taking stock of the past year, realising their shortcomings and intensifying their efforts for development.

The Most Rev. Prof. Asante, who is also the Chairman of National Peace Council, said there was the need for Christians to consider ourselves as a witness to Christ, adding that people had reduced Christianity to cut-calls.

‘We do organise prayer meetings, we go to church every Sunday, yet still we preach virtue and practice vice,’’ he said..

The Most Rev. Prof. Asante charged the youth to resist the temptation of being used as couriers for drug trafficking.

He urged them also to go into the remote areas and propagate the gospel in order to win more souls for Christ.

The Presiding Bishop appealed to them to show love and care towards the poor and the needy and contribute meaningfully to their well-being.

He advised them to take active interest in national programmes especially the National Sanitation Day exercise which had been instituted by the Government.

Very Rev. Dr Isaac Nana Abakah, Director of Youth Ministries Directorate of the Methodist Church Ghana, urged the youth to avoid the get-rich-quick attitude, be law-abiding and rely on God for all their needs.

Mr Kwame Boafo, Lay President, who chaired the function, urged them to love one another and also offer themselves for the promotion and development of God’s work.
